I. Introduction

The Vietnam War was a treacherous reminder of how many innocent people had suffered starvation, and even death, because many people wanted to conquer Vietnam. Many were held hostage, or were captivated in a prison. This war was a horrific battle that had lasted from 1945 to 1975. The Vietnam War was a heinous battle fought by many brave leaders that was for justice, but mostly for survival.

II. The Causes of the Vietnam War

The Vietnam War was not caused by a declaration of war, no, the Vietnam War was began by John F. Kennedy, who wanted to help Vietnam, sending troops to help the South of Vietnam learn how to escape communism (The Causes of the Vietnam War). The French, who was interested in conquering Vietnam, had sent many troops to fight Vietnam(Vietnam War). See, the French had been keeping a close eye on the Vietnam country, just in case an opportunity had turned up, and when they saw the South struggling, they saw their chance. In the US, President Dwight D. sent the CIA to go help the South with the surplus of military the French had (Learn about the Vietnam War). John F. Kennedy had been the cause of 30 treacherous years of war in Vietnam, even though he was trying to help (Vietnam War).

John F. Kennedy had sent many troops to support the South

III. Thirty Years of Torture and Despair

Many people had suffered severely during the nine years in the Vietnam War. People lost their homes, jobs, and many lost their lives. The Vietnam War had cost Vietnam 1-2 million lives, and over 3 million injuries (Learn about the Vietnam War). The Vietnam War began when the French had tried to conquer Vietnam for its location. Both teams had fought very courageously, but the French were defeated by the militia led by Vietnam’s intelligent president, Ngo Dinh Diem (Vietnam War). However, Vietnam’s people were not cooperating, and it resulted in over 2,000 military leaders killed during the revolt of South Vietnam. To make matters worse, President Ngo Dinh Diem was killed by an anonymous assassinator in 1963 (Bobbie Kalman). Vietnam would have to be able to cooperate to save their country, because weeks after the assassination, the US dropped a heinous chemical called Agent Orange that poisoned over 1/5 of Vietnam’s crops and forests (Bobbie Kalman). Many of the innocent starved to death, while others had ran away, becoming refugees, including my own father. Even though Vietnam had many hardships, there were some advantages they had.

Here is a picture showing some of the many people that had died during the war.

IV. A Powerful Hope

Even though Vietnam had suffered many harsh hardships, they did have advantages. They had received 2.6 billion dollars from the US for financial support (Vietnam War). They had many brave generals, and they also had the support of many of their people (including my very own grandpa!). However, this was just a little help with the murderous hardships that they had to face. When they lost the life of their president, they elected a new courageous general, Nguyen Van Thieu, to be the new president (Vietnam War). Vietnamese people were all scattered around the globe after the war, and many were famished and parched for much of the journey. However, some of the people (just like my father) had made it to the US in search of education, and jobs. Some of them are living very happy and successful lives today (Vietnam War).

The French had INVADED the South

V. Conclusion

So in the end, Vietnam is now at its original state, quiet and peaceful. When you look at it, it makes you wonder how it could have been the setting of such a horrific battlefield. Many people today that were once a fugitive are now living happy lives. In conclusion, the Vietnam War began with misery and despair, ending with a horrific memory that will be in my heart forever. I should have done my report on a happier topic, like food, but that is a different story.

The Murder Scene

Many people had admired Jake Ellis, so when he was killed, they were crushed. He was killed on the Sunday after his big photo shoot at 9:00, in the morning. Nobody knew who had killed him, even when his people called the most famous detective, Mason Santiago. Well, let’s begin the story, shall we?

It was a very humid night, right after his big photo shoot. He had turned off the security, because he didn’t want to go through his window, just to get to his bedroom. He fell to sleep at 8:00, tossing and turning from 6:00 a.m., to 7:45. His door flew right open with an unmistakable sound of a battering ram. He didn’t worry about it, considering that he had only 15 minutes of sleep, but when he heard a click, he flew out of bed, to see somebody with a Desert Eagle pointed at him. Jake made swift kick to the gun, sending it flying into the closet. While the killer was chasing after it, Jake grabbed his baseball bat autographed by Babe Ruth. Jake swung the bat with all his might, smacking the killer in the face. The killer was furious, because he/she pulled up the gun, and with a single shot, Jake, was dead.

Chapter 1:

Anybody can idolize someone, but my sister is creepy at it. Hi, I am Lucas Santiago, and yes, I have the same last name as the famous detective. I plan to be a doctor when I grow up, though. I got the newspaper, and saw the huge headline :

Jake Ellis has been Killed, and there is a bounty of $30,000 on his Killer’s head. We have Mason Santiago on the case. Good Luck, you’re gonna need it.

My mom made her famous marshmallow pancakes, and after I inhaled 4, I went next door, which just so happens to be Jake’s House. There was police tape everywhere, and about 12 guarding the front door, so I went to the back door. There was a guard blocking the back door, so I turned around, but he saw me.

“Hey what do you think you are doing. You make my job a million times harder. I want to go home, because today is Wednesday, and I am expecting a package. I just love Mail Day.” He started, but I cut him off.

“Hey look Lady Gaga!!”

“Where?!” He screamed, like a little girl, turning a full circle, but by the time he looked at where I was standing, I was already in the house.

I went up Jake’s spiral stairs, to hear Mason Santiago talking to himself.

“Okay, so the butler was making tea, the maid was cleaning the house, and the mailman was checking the mail. Come on Mason, why can’t you solve this?

I knew who had killed Jake, because I heard what I needed to hear. I am going to rich!!! I walked in, only to make Mason start yelling.

“Why are in here? Who let…”

“I know who killed Jake.” I cut him off.

“Who?” Mason asked, stepping closer.

“It was the mailman.”

“Can you prove it?”

“Yes, because he was just checking the mail, but why would he check it on the wrong day?”

Mason knew that I was right. The mailman was arrested the next day. Mason told everyone that I had solved the case before he did. The mayor came and shook my hand. Everybody has called me Lucas Santiago, 2nd best detective. Would I ever get a normal life, and when I thought bout it, I realized that the chances of that happening, were the chances of somebody licking their elbow, try it, and you’ll understand.

The Water Polo Game of Death by Tyler

I remember it like it was yesterday, oh wait, it was. It had happened so quickly that nobody knew, except me. It all started on a hot day in the month of November. We were at water polo. It was the most terrible practice that I have ever suffered, an hour just for treading, half an hour for swimming, and the other half for jungle ball. During the jungle ball, we split up into different teams, and I was w/ the SMALLEST KID IN THE WHOLE TEAM. We worked hard, but I was dunked underwater and he (the kid, Owen) was kicked in the shin w/ a guy on his back. I had the ball, but I immediately lost it.
I saw the team just as I fell down to the ground. Owen had the ball threw it into the goal, and we scored. Hooray. Happy ending, huh. Well, being the goalie (when you score, you become goalie) is twice as scary as being on offense. Our “victory” didn’t last long. A player named Troy scored within 12 seconds. It hit me in the chest, and both me and the ball went into the goal. I felt very lightheaded. Owen jumped into the pool, while I fell very painfully into it. My body was basically paralyzed in the water. I couldn’t move, hear, or even see.
The water was slowly taking the pain away. When the pain finally died down, I shot out of the water and hit the ball out of a player’s hand w/ my head. I got the ball, which was a few feet away, and threw it right in the goal, under the goalie’s arm.
“Yeah that’s right who’s your daddy now, huh?”
However, it was a passing foul, not a shooting one, so it didn’t count at all. I was devastated. I was off my guard, and that was a big screw-up, because everyone rushed and attacked me when the goalie threw it right at me. I was underwater again. The water shimmered as it reflected the moonlight. I heard the bubbles roaring in my ear. My eyes could only see light because the light pole was pointed to the water. My vision was extremely blurry with the chlorine seeping into my eyes.
My body was harmed in many different places. My body was yet again, paralyzed, and someone had choked me underwater by the neck. My fear that this was my last practice was rising, but I didn’t lose any hope. My reflexes were back and I sprung out of the water and I had another foul. I was so anxious to win, that I threw the ball right into the hands of Owen. I swam all the way to him.
“Pass, pass!” I yelled breathing very heavily. After he passed, I chucked the ball right at Troy, and it hit him in the chest, and he flew back into the goal, just like what had happened to me.
“Hurts doesn’t it?” I asked in a sour way.
Owen and I leaped into the goal, and had won the game because it was the end of practice. What had started as a lame practice, turned into a war, fierce battle, and survival under the dreadful pool. This is Tyler, signing off.

My dad is a person who suffered many hardships (which you can see in my next paragraph), and didn’t have the proper education I was able to get. He is an operator in downtown L.A. that works with a lot of electricity in his job. Justin T. is actually still in school, considering  that his job contains so much studying, and tests. His tests decide whether he can keep his job, or not. My dad is who will do anything to support his family. He is a father who inspires me to do well in school, because he tells me that he doesn’t want me to go through the life that he went through, or is going through. My dad is a really intelligent, spontaneous father, and I am lucky to have him in my life.

When my dad was born, he only saw his mom, because his father was at war, fighting the North Vietnamese for his country. He barely ever saw his dad, unless his dad would win a war, the other team retreated. Since he barely ever saw his dad, his mom would have to take care of him, with his 7 siblings. His family was then conquered by Communists, so they either had to be slaves, or had to run away from the country. Many of the Southern Vietnamese went onto boats and was sailing away. They thought that they had escaped from the hardships. Boy, were they wrong. They suffered hardships that were even more harmful than staying as slaves. They faced terrible weather (storms, and heavy rain), and being famished and dehydrated. They were running out of food, so they used the North Star, and navigated their way to a refugee camp in Malaysia. They used the nearest airport, and flew all the way to U.S.A. My dad did all of this, without a single complaint. His mother would always say, “You are a very brave soldier, just like your father.” That sentence would always bring up his spirit. He is my inspiration, and my everyday hero.

My dad is a very faithful person who took many steps to achieve his goal of a very happy life. It was very difficult, since he had to learn English as a second language. He focused entirely on education, which meant that he would depend on his younger and older siblings to take care his mother. He would never give in on the pier pressure that his friends gave him when they tried to empt him wih drugs. His role model was is own doctor, Dr. Tran. He was able to complete 4 years of college. He settled with that average amount of education. He switched many jobs (Technician, Printing Supervisor, and a librarian), but he landed a solid job, in which he has now. He is a very humble, and courageous person, who will do anything to support his family. He is a true everyday hero.

It was a dark and stormy night. The wind was howling as the sun was setting, and the moon was rising. There was a legend that a dark figure would come out on the 2nd and 3rd Monday of every month. It would kill and eat three people every time it came out. Everyone got superstitious and called a meeting at the church in town.

“It’s either we kill it, or it kills us!!” Yelled Joshua, the mayor.

“How can we stop it from killing us? It will come out in three days! How will we prepare for it?!” Exclaimed Kenneth, the mayors son.

“We’ll take care of it. We can do it.”  Said the mayors twins, Jason and Mason.

Everyone was thanking Jason and Mason, but they didn’t know what they were doing. They went home very pleased with themselves, and grabbed the weapons they needed. Jason had a Samurai Sword, while Mason had a shotgun. They had a nice rest. Tomorrow, they went to school, only to be flooded with grateful people. They were having the time of their lives for the past three days, but when the time came, they weren’t sure whether they should do the job, or not. When they went into the woods, Jason was thinking about what might happen to them.

“Wait, we left our survival knife at the church.” Jason said, stalling for time.

They went back to get the knife, and their lovable grandma came and gave them water.

“Be careful, that figure is very quick; she…” The grandma faked a cough. “It killed your grandpa remember?”

That freaked them out, but they went out anyways. They set off into the woods. A shadow then dropped from the trees, and attacked Mason. Mason lied on the floor, bruised and bloody. Jason grabbed his blade, and slashed off one arm, leg, and half a head. The creature ran away, with disgust. Mason carried Jason all the way to church.

“He’s dead.” Joshua said, with a tear in his eyes.

The shadow figure had perished, but it took Jason with it. A tear fell through Mason’s eyes.

“Be well, my brother.” Mason whispered to the dead body.

The grandma walked up on the stage, behind the podium.

“Jason will be missed.” She started.

“How could you?!” Mason yelled with a river running down his face.

Everyone was puzzled. The lovable grandma stepped off of the stage, and everyone saw her. She had one arm, one leg and half a head.

“I had to. I have to eat, you know, just like you.” She said with emotion.

She looked at everyone, and she had a feast.

The End
